Color quantization, JPEG, JND.
We propose a method for color quantization of map images originally consisting of a limited number of colors. However, map images are often available as scanned versions of their hardcopy and compressed by lossy compression techniques such as JPEG. Thus, instead of the set of original colors as an input, we have an image, which can have up to 16 million of colors. Here we consider the color quantization problem applied for map images where the number of output colors is unknown.
