Stereo vision, surface reconstruction, specular surfaces
In this paper we study the reconstruction of totally reflect ing surfaces from multiple views without additional non specular observations by using multiple coded point light sources. It is assumed that the system is calibrated, i.e. the intrinsic and extrinsic parameters of the cameras as well as the positions of the point light sources are known. The classical stereo reconstruction approach will result in false reconstructions in this case since only the virtual scene points, i.e. the virtual images of the light sources behind the specular surface are calculated. An analysis of the re flection phenomena shows that a differential equation for each camera is obtained. By solving the equations simulta neously, the specular surface can be reconstructed without knowing anything about the shape of the surface.
