A new method for optimising fuzzy-rule based systems is presented. In the first step the existing rule-base will be transformed into a functionally equivalent neural network. In a second step this neural network will be optimised "on the job" by a special learning rule. In the last step the improved neural network will be retransformed into a new rule based system.
