Router, proxy server, performance
We investigate performance characteristics of a router providing several user services. For a commonly used router, we determine the maximum number of users supported for various page sizes when using a proxy server, and performance measures such as CPU utilization, throughput, and response time with the maximum number of users. We study the effect on router performance of running different services, alone and concurrently, by finding their CPU utilization, and measure the response time and throughput with multiple services. We also examine the impact on router performance due to increasing the number of rules in a traffic controller, and the variation of CPU utilization and response time with assigned bandwidth.
