An approach to detect and characterize sensor failures in power systems is developed using fuzzy logic. Redundant sensor validation using short-term and long term signal validation is used in the detection of abrupt and incipient faults. In addition, single (non-redundant) sensor validation is made possible using statistical quantities. Further, the anomalies are characterized as transients or jumps. The results from fault detection and characterization of synthetic data are provided in detail.
