Abstract

Accurate measurement of power disturbances in real time circumstances is a key element of protection, control, fault diagnosis, power quality monitoring and power metering in electric power systems. The research study proposes three criteria for selecting or developing appropriate measurement techniques to achieve this goal. Based on these criteria, performance of several existing measurement techniques are analyzed and compared. A novel complex filter and resulting recursive algorithm are further presented in this paper, which has both high measurement accuracy in different service conditions and low computational complexity. Performance of the proposed method is evaluated using simulated power disturbance waveforms, its effectiveness and superiority are proven.
