Vibrato Analysis of Violin
A new method of using energy density spectrum analysis is performed to do the vibrato analysis for string instruments. The Time-Varying Spectrum (TVS) of the sound is obtained from the energy density spectrum. The equivalent amplitude of the harmonic is calculated from the total energy of its energy density spectrum, and the frequency is taken from the expectation value with respect to its energy density spectrum. It was shown that the new method was superior to the traditional STFT. This new method was used to analyze the vibrato effect for violin. The TVS of all violin pitches were successfully extracted. The listening test had shown that the synthesized violin samples were very similar to the real samples and had provided the support for the validity of the new analytical method.
