Abstract

In this paper, we propose a new method for automatic 2 dimensional tracking of regional motion of left ventricular myocardium by means of ultrasonic pulsed Doppler signal. The regional motion tracking of myocardium is essential to myocardial function diagnosis. A regional infarction of myocardium is a common symptom of the early stage of myocardial disease. In order to the early detection of it, conventional macroscopic performance evaluation methods such as the extraction of endocardium and epicardium are insufficient, and consequently microscopic evaluation is re quired. The proposed method is based on the correlation weighed phase difference method that provides high per formance in 1-dimensional tracking of regional myocardial motion. The estimation of 2-dimensional velocity vector and the motion correction with a 2-dimensional myocar dial elastic model provide accurate tracking. Experimental results show the proposed method is suitable for the evalu ation of regional myocardial performance.
