Abstract

This paper proposes a new method Low-Band Correction (LBC) to improve the resolution scalability feature for scalable video coding (SVC). LBC can be seen as the spatial domain representation of the well-known in band wavelet motion estimation technique. In LBC, each resolution layer has independently optimized motion vectors, whereas, all textures are merged into one big texture and transcoded in a pre-decoder. In decoder side, merged texture is split into several textures and decoded perfectly with some correction mechanism. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides better performance in low bitrate condition compared to conventional motion halving strategy.
