Abstract

Solar energy technologies have been advancing at a rapid rate. Technologies that were very expensive ten years ago are now competing with conventional power generating systems. The optimum solar energy conversion in a given time requires a hybrid of different conversion methods due to the variable nature of solar energy. When different solar energy systems are integrated, unexpected outcomes may result. This paper discusses how one may find harmonics in a hybrid PV-Solar thermal power system, how to measure the harmonic content, what potential problems may arise due to the presence of harmonics, and how to minimize the effects of harmonics.
