Abstract

Adaptive modulation is a scheme for adapting the modula tion type of a transmitter to the condition of time-varying channels. A key component of the adaptive modulation is a rate-compatible coding scheme, by which the transmitter can adapt its coding rate to modulation type given accord ing to the channel. We present a new rate-compatible cod ing scheme for high-rate turbo codes that uses an originally high-rate convolutional code. The rate-compatibility is ac complished by repetition coding that generates a variety of low-rate codes from a high-rate code by repeating part of information bits of the original high-rate code.
