Abstract

Although common software acquisition frameworks, such as IEEE 1062 and SA-CMM, have identified many useful practices, they cannot thoroughly address the need of people who manage software acquisition as projects. This paper re-organizes the defined practices from the angle of project management, and enables managers to identify important practices for different project phases. The widely accepted PMBOK Guide of PMI is employed as the framework of project management. Some potential improvement areas of software acquisition practices are also identified from the project management standpoint.
