Abstract

Distributed object oriented (OO) computing such as RMI, COBRA and SOAP is fast becoming the de-facto standard for software development. One major task of the system designers is to determine the optimal object server deployment strategy for the system to perform efficiently. This paper presents a new approach to determine the optimal deployment strategy that reduces the client response time. We develop simulation models that are exercised using the OMNeT++ simulation engine to allow system engineers to try multiple configurations based on planned and predictive information (encoded as profiles) without actually implementing the system to answer many engineering issues.
