Abstract

Workflow systems have been researched and successfully used in IT systems, both public and private, for over a decade [1]. There are many competing workflow modeling languages, however there is no agreed upon standard. The lack of standardization inhibits adoption and adds confusion to the area. The purpose of this paper is to establish a framework and develop meaningful criteria for evaluating workflow modeling languages. These preliminary results are applied to several of the existing modeling languages.
