Social Network Analysis, Mergers & Acquisitions, Post merger Integration, Organizational Development.
Although traditionally merger and acquisition literature has focused mainly on financials, recently the human side of mergers has been investigated more frequently. A number of scholars have examined mergers from a social identity theory perspective. However, current research has not looked at the structure of interpersonal relationships in post-merger situations. This conceptual paper explores the possibilities of applying established social network mechanisms to organizational mergers to identify how these various mechanisms could operate under merger conditions. An understanding of the social network models and their associated mechanisms could allow us to better anticipate and manage post-merger integration.
