Abstract

This paper considers the problem of finding a TCP win dow flow-control mechanism maximizing a social welfare network objective for greedy users. Using a mathemati cal model of resource distribution in a TCP network, we propose a distributed window control mechanism leading to flow rate which achieves maximum social welfare. The proposed window control mechanism is characterized as a fixed point function, whose fixed point, i.e flow rates, is the optimal rate for maximum social welfare. The fixed point achieves proportional fairness.
