Abstract

This paper focuses on the concept and description of adaptable methods. An adaptable method is a special method which can change its own behavior depending on runtime situations. In particular, adaptable methods are useful for enabling the adaptable behavior of server pro grams, mobile agents, etc. We developed a middleware system named ami. Without extending Java language and its virtual machines, etc., ami makes adaptable methods of Java programs possible as if they were ordinary methods.
