fractal, multifractal, long range dependence
It is now well-established that traffic in data networks exhibits long-range dependence. The characterization of wireless traces has been less comprehensive. In this pa per, we calculate the Hurst parameter and multifractal pa rameters of two wireless traces (CDPD and WLAN). We show that CDPD trace exhibit monofractal behavior while WLAN WAN trace exhibits multifractality. This is at tributed to the collision avoidance protocol of IEEE802.11.
