This paper presents an approach for using abstract specifications for monitoring. Based on the formal de scription of the system management, monitoring tools can be generated. An event based approach is used to model the dynamic aspects of the systems. Calculation functions are used for collecting and interpreting information on the components of the applications as well as on the used hard ware and the resources.
