Abstract

There is a constant need for practical, effective and efficient techniques to merge and reengineer legacy systems. Extensive research has been done in this area but majority of it has focussed on migration towards modern platforms, programming languages and have addressed mainly the "ageing symptoms" of the system. The case where two or more legacy systems are to be merged has had less focus. This paper proposes a reengineering process model that describes an efficient way to merge two legacy systems using iterative reengineering and tackling the quality issues by means of carefully designed test cases.
