Software metrics, Function Points, Software SizeEstimation, Empirical Analysis
In the software industry many projects fail due to both the misjudgment of project size and faulty estimates correlated to that elementary metric. Several methods for software size estimation are present. The Function Points Analysis (FPA) method, however, is most frequently put into practice. After Albrecht introduced the FPA method, several variations evolved. However, for most project managers the method is too complicated and does not entitle the promise of early estimates. In this paper, we present some mathematical analysis and tips for the early assessment of software size. Simplification is, however, not without limitations.
