process models, Agile development, XP
Agile software processes are rapidly gaining popularity as methods for the development of information systems software. While software development methods in the past have been amenable to modeling as a process, this is not the case with the various processes classified as Agile. Agile methods adhere to a set of common principles rather than follow a common process thus it is difficult to produce a generic model with sufficient granularity to permit academic analysis of the entire class of methods. We have formulated the jigsaw model that illustrates the essential components of an Agile process. In this paper we discuss the application of that model to eXtreme Programming.
