The CORBA Component Model is a modern component technology that assists creating new complex and distributed software applications in a rapid way. The Streaming Extension for the CORBA Component Model allows for the specification and tool-assisted implementation of component-based streaming applications. The Streaming Extension is one proposed solution to the question for the integration of CORBA component technology and data streams, which is currently under review by the OMG. This paper describes the proposed technology solution from the viewpoint of the component designer and illustrates the procedure to create streaming applications from a model of the application to the final deployment and first test.
