Abstract

Horizon-Scan (HS) is a new heuristic based optimisation technique designed for non-linear search space. This paper presents an investigative study on different scan methods that can be used with HS. An introduction to HS sets the scene for a discussion on the scan methods. An alternative Hill-Climb method is applied for improved performance. An investigation into alternative scan techniques is presented. Comparative results are presented to show the optimal choice of the scanning method to a multi-dimensional problem. Results report on the efficiencies of the scanning method.
