The present paper describes the procedure employed and the results obtained in a study of the transmission system characteristics of an experimental vehicle that is being developed for the Shell Eco-Marathon Contest. The aim of the study is to optimize the transmission efficiency which was conducted via a numerical study. A code was developed to solve the differential equations that describe the dynamic behaviour of the transmission system, using MATHCAD2000. The optimization was achieved by limiting the tangential force applied on the traction wheel to avoid the wheel slipping and the maximum stress in the shafts to prevent mechanical failure.
