Abstract

In the time that has passed since September 11, 2001, first responder training has become very important; yet doing so without placing them at risk is a great challenge. Modeling and simulation techniques, such as virtual reality, present a viable alternative. Foundational to such training is modeling the sensors that the first responders would use in a weapon of mass destruction (WMD) event. Using object-oriented techniques in C++, we have developed a simulator for the MultiRAE Plus PID. This is the primary instrument used during initial survey operations.
