Island operation of power plants or of an electric power system is an interesting issue not only from the theoretical point of view but also in terms of possibility of such operation in reality. For the purpose of maintaining the stability of this type of operation, the requirements for designing a heavy-duty frequency and voltage control systems are more stringent than the requirements for standard operation of power plants within an electric power system and the electric power system as a whole. This paper addresses an approach to a dynamic model of a multimachine thermal power plant under island operation that could be suitable for a theoretical study of phenomena for this mode of operation. The equivalent involves dynamics of rotor motion of a machine being equivalenced.
