Abstract

There are instances when the use of empirical distributions could be more effective for representing queueing models than the use of fitted distributions. In this paper, we in vestigate those instances for the case of discrete time. Our study helps us to identify those instances. It also raises sev eral issues that still need to be investigated further in order to arrive at a definite conclusion on when to select one of the two approaches.
