Abstract

This paper explores the feasibility of making use of an audio channel's capacity below the perceptual threshold as a hidden sub-channel to enable the transmission of virtu ally wider band audio signals. Such an audio channel can be a one with the conventional telephony or with voice over-IP. Since the sub-channel is hidden - not detectable by the human ear - a communications system equipped with this technology will be compatible with the existing equipment in terms of audio signal transmission. The extension of the audio bandwidth by using the proposed technique provides the listener with an improved audio quality and intelligibility. Recordings demonstrating this will be played at the presentation. This paper complements what was published in [1].
