Abstract

Rolling mills are often operated on a 24-hours basis. Risk involved initial control tests are usually not accepted on such critical processes. However, looperless tension control remains a pending problem. Therefore a testbed is highly demanded to verify and evaluate new control designs. This paper proposes a virtual reality based testbed to solve this problem. It is proven to be an effective tool in the development of looperless tension control systems. The paper also addresses some general considerations of tension control system design.
