Abstract

In just four years, the eXtensible Markup Language (XML) defined by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) [1] has become a widespread standard format for data interchange. Thanks to its ability to represent data in any imaginable structure, along with associated metadata, it has been particularly embraced for application integra tion. XML technology has also deeply influenced the area of modeling and simulation. Here, the development of XML-based model interchange formats are approaches to overcome incompatibility between modeling and simula tion tools based on the same or similar modeling tech niques. The main focus of this paper will be on the design of an XML-based interchange format for high-level Petri Nets. Furthermore different representation possibilities for Petri Net models and their evaluation results will be pointed out. The feasibility of our approach is demon strated by a simple example.
