Abstract

Reed Solomon codes are able to achieve a very low BER so a variance reduction technique to evaluate their performance by simulation becomes necessary. A method based on obtaining an efficient generation of error events by means of Importance Sampling is presented in this paper as a possible solution to obtain accurate estimators with a reasonable computational cost. The way in which it has been implemented and several results obtained with the method applied to a simply model in order to validate it are presented. Its advantages and limitations are explored in order to apply it to a more complicated system.
