Power distribution, global earthing systems, touch voltages, step voltages.
This research work was devoted to the study of a real global earthing system. It was organized into two stages. During the first one several experimental measurements were performed, while during the second one a FEM approach was used. The international standards on power distribution have introduced the concept of "global earthing system", i.e. an area with a high density of substations where, due to the reciprocal connection of the local earthing systems of each substation, there is no danger of touch and step voltages. Aim of this work is the identification of the features that an earthing system must have to be considered as a global one.
