Abstract

Wind power generation is expected to become more important for future distributed generation systems. However, there appear to be few investigations on insulation schemes, earthing design and transient analysis for these new generation apparatus. While control methods and stability analysis for various types of generators and grid-interactive inverters have been relatively well discussed, behavior under surge invasion from/to power lines is yet to be clarified. This paper discusses surge analysis caused by lightning strike on the windmill on an ideal model for wind power generation connecting to a power system via a grid-interactive inverter and transformers.
