Abstract

As the awareness about power quality is growing, the importance of active power filters is increasing and significant contributions are being made by researchers in this area. In this paper, three of the conventional three phase active power filter algorithms are reviewed. A simple, easy to implement, three-phase active power filter algorithm is proposed based on the reactive power and harmonic compensation requirement of the system in question. The proposed algorithm is tested by simulation of a typical three-phase system with non-linear load. The load considered here is a three-phase full wave rectifier feeding a resistive load. The encouraging results obtained support the effectiveness of the new algorithm. Computations and circuit implementation are found to be comparatively much simpler than the conventional algorithms.
