Abstract

A reliable power distribution system is an essential component for economic growth and development. In most of the countries the gap between demand and supply of electricity is increasing due to rapid growth in industrialization. In general, the generation and transmission networks are being expanded in a planned manner using modern technology. However, the distribution systems have generally grown in an unplanned manner in India resulting in high technical and commercial losses in addition to poor quality of power. It is possible to improve the quality and reliability of the power supply by retrofitting the recently developed Distribution Automation Technology in the existing distribution system. This paper describes advanced capability of the distribution automation system and consequently, the reliable operation of the power distribution system.
