Abstract

This paper discusses the patterns of cross references between search topics. It focuses on two case studies on the ACM digital library (www.acm.org) and the Yahoo search engine (www.yahoo.com). Many digital libraries and search engines organize their contents in a hierarchical structure. Our study shows that a lot of cross references match the subtopics relationships but there are also a lot of cross references outside these relationships. We developed a model of Bayesian Networks based on significant cross-topic references and discuss how it can be used to enhance the incremental relevant feedback and the metasesarch engine
