Summarizing long duration shots of video sequences is an open research issues. The number of keyframes to be extracted for each shot depends on the activity details of the shot. In this work, we present a novel idea of intra-shot summarization that works on a hierarchical approach to automatic keyframe extraction. Our approach uses the statistics of the feature vector distances between the successive frames within a level extracted on the basis of color histograms. The proposed technique has been tested for some standard video sequences and the results are encouraging.
