Abstract

Being motivated by the modern trend towards mobile communications, this paper describes a transceiver construction design, considering the type of the laser source, the laser beam divergence angles and the detector characteristics for optical wireless between the terminals in motion, along with the possible application scenarios. The estimated communication ranges for different atmospheric conditions, by night, are presented. A solution is also suggested for higher tracking performance. Included in the conclusions is the fact that the range can be doubled approximately by the application of the speech coding techniques at lower bit rates, such as one or two kilobits per second.
