Abstract

In this paper, we present a new method to estimate the distance between two hosts in the Internet. Many Internet based applications, for example, dynamic web caching and optimal location of e-marketplaces for mobile agents, require the knowledge about the distance between two hosts. IDMaps and GNP, the two approaches described in literature, are approximate methods and suffer from the disadvantage of needing some special reference nodes. The approach presented in this paper is much simpler and delivers the actual distance between two hosts in the Internet.
