Abstract

Digital transmission not only increases the quality and robustness for audiovisual contents broadcasting. The Multimedia Home Platform presents a vendor, author and broadcaster neutral framework to create interactive television applications. To transmit them, together with the video and audio, DVB standards use the MPEG-2 DSM-CC Carousel protocols. The available bandwidth for broadcast digital applications is very limited because every channel transports multiple MPEG-2 streams. Thus, download time raises when a channel transports many applications or when their size increases. This paper presents some techniques to improve the presentation of digital television applications, by reducing their download and start-up times.
