Abstract

Due to proliferation of conventional community services such as Internet bulletin board systems, users face diffi culty in finding a community in which to participate that matches their interests. Therefore, we implemented and evaluated Environment for Communities of Agents (EcA gent). EcAgent searches the Internet for trends in user interests and autonomously discovers ad hoc communities that are loose collections of agents. It establishes future community services that require no active creation or par ticipation by users. It employs two methods for commu nity recognition to gather global information about trends of communication among all agents. We evaluated how accurately EcAgent recognizes embedded relationships as communities. Evaluation results show that the combination of two proposed methods works efficiently.
