Model-based, computer-supported engineering constitutes an indispensable means to reduce cost and time in the de velopment of complex industrial products while improving its overall quality. However, comprehensive support for a tight integration of product modelling and the underlying development process with numerous participants and tools from different disciplines is currently missing. Therefore, we propose a conceptual framework with a three-layer model architecture and support for multiple, possibly interdependent development views. Each view is related to a fundamental activity of the process, allowing for a highly flexible management of model consistency. An example from aviation illustrates the application of the pre sented approach.
