Abstract

We propose a physically-based reflection model for metallic surfaces. The surfaces are assumed homogeneous, isotropic, and microscopically smooth, and having a Gaussian height field. We consider that the total reflection consists of contributions from single and multiple scattering. An analytic self-shadowing factor is derived as a function of surface roughness, and color variation due to multiple scattering is addressed. This model is compared to previous models and the effects of surface roughness are shown through rendered images.
