Abstract

This paper presents a platform independent system for 3D visualization over the World Wide Web. This system integrates visualization technology with World Wide Web technology to enable production, dissemination and use of 3D imagery and geospatial information on a hierarchical level. Multiple interactive graphic user interfaces and a 3D visualization engine on the client side are developed. A visualization Web bridge and a data provider on the server side are designed and implemented. Object-oriented techniques, Java and visualization technologies are used to implement this system. This system takes the advantage of the "write once run anywhere" Java paradigm. The application results demonstrate that users have flexibility to query, visualize, manipulate and analyze 3D geospatial data. It also exhibits that multiple users in geographically dispersed organizations can conveniently share information through this system.
