Abstract

Most of the techniques used in radiology (MRI, CT, etc.), for planning the treatment of tumors pro vide the observer with planar parallel images at a dis tance apart. In only a few cases is the automated seg mentation of the tumor possible in these images and it is normally the observer who manually delineates the planar contour of the tumor in each of the sections. Here we consider parallel images coming from the same tumor and we give several geometrical means for the contours delineated by a number of observes. From these means we obtain standard deviation functions to give us an idea of the contour variability between observes.
