Image compression, JPEG, adaptive quantization.
JPEG is one of the most world wide used image coding methods. This method is able to get very good results with moderate compression (bit rates > 0,5 bpp) but suffers from blocking effect at low bit-rates. To reduce the visibility of this artefact, in this paper we propose to use an adaptive quantization algorithm in JPEG. Our algorithm provides images with better objective and subjective quality at low bit rates at the expense of a small increment in computational cost.
