The field of information retrieval is very experimental in nature. We identify the need to create test beds for information retrieval experimentation. We propose an architecture for such a test bed and describe a prototype that we have created. We identify additional enhancements that would be needed for a test bed to support comprehensive experimentation for multilingual retrieval and classification. Such test beds can also serve as very useful teaching tools.
