Problem management, corrective maintenance, taxonomy of activities, process model.
To understand and measure processes requires proper and detailed identification of their scope and inherent activities. Unfortunately, the extant maintenance process models are too general. They do not help in acquiring an objective understanding of the scope of the maintenance categories and their processes. They do not offer the visibility required to each type of maintenance work. They do not provide enough feedback to process analysis and defect prevention. In this paper, we present a fine-grained taxonomy of problem management activities essential for creating detailed process models within corrective maintenance. This taxonomy is the result of our empirical studies of industrial problem management processes.
