Developing the user interface for an online knowledge based system that operates in parallel to real-time industrial processes is a different task than the development of the user interface for a traditional expert system. This is because in online systems there is the need for graphical representation of various kind of online information as well as for virtual representation of the various technical devices involved in the diagnostic task in a comprehensible way to the user in parallel to the traditional user interface functions of an expert system. This paper presents the design and implementation of the user interface of an on-line diagnostic knowledge-based system working in parallel with dynamic industrial automated processes.
